Nick looks so grown up. The day after the wedding we watched home videos from Christmases 1991 and 1992 when Nick was five and six years old...I was rockin' the very serious and business casual outfits from the Limited Too at the age of 9 and 10. He rocked the green sweatsuits (ever the fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles v1.0), and occasionally the undershirt/white briefs combo. My aunt Amy referred to him as "White Lightning" as he managed to zip through each frame of the video that Christmas. Somehow, out of nowhere, there was Nick in his undies!
Friday morning I managed to miss my 6AM flight, only to get on a 6:15 one that was not direct, but I arrived in Detroit before my parents, thankfully. I was originally told by the Northwest agent that I could get on a 4:45 pm flight and I cried. We rented a car and drove to Rochester Hills to have lunch at our favorite dairy bar...malteds...seasoned fries...swivel stools...you get the picture. Saturday my Dad and I went to a sports bar down the street to watch Northwestern and Michigan State play their respective opponents and got back to the hotel in time to get ready and drive to the church! Sunday the family had brunch at their country club and then I hung out with the fam sans parents, who had to fly back to New Orleans, which is when the home video viewing began. I miss my grandfather so much at these events and its so strange to hear him narrate the videos, as he was always the videographer. We had to pull out Amy's 1985 wedding video in order to see footage my grandpa actually on camera.
I came back to work only to not want to be there. My supervisor started to get concerned. I discharged one of my patients on Friday, and it was a huge success, so that's a positive for the week. Our census is low right now, and it is unknown when I'll take on another kiddo. My 16 year old was rejoicing last week that she'd soon be my only patient and wouldn't have to share any more. That's not entirely realistic, as I do have an outpatient family, and an evaluation of one of the 8 year olds in the Day Treatment program. My task is to make a diagnosis basically, despite a paper trail a mile long of previous evaluations. So far it seems that the diagnosis might be "Chaotic/inappropriate family dynamics."
This weekend is entirely about catching up and sleeping. Pilates, recycling, grocery store, cooking, laundry. Tomorrow intern friends and I are going to Maymont Park for a picnic...we're lucky enough to be smack dab in the middle of the fall colors and the high is going to be 62 and sunny!
